The glorious Cox Plate win of Hong Kong champion Romantic Warrior has been cheered on in record numbers with almost $12 million bet into the World Pool across five bet types.
The total of HK59.95 million or $A11.99 million was, spurred on by the international testing of Hong Kong’s champion.
The figure across those five bet types makes it the second largest World Pool race on record behind the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Early estimates suggest just over $3.6m was wagered in the win pool for the Cox Plate, up on the $2.55m (Caulfield Cup) and $2.84m (Everest).
About $2.35m was wagered in the quinella pool, while the place ($1.97m), duet ($1.69) and trifecta ($1.62m) pools also had significant interest from punters for the Cox Plate.
The World Pool brings together 25 co-mingled tote pools organised through the Hong Kong Jockey Club, including both totes in Victoria and NSW.
Romantic Warrior started at $3,60 fixed odds and paid $2.80 on Victoria’s S-TAB.
