For the first time in its history, the Ladbrokes Cox Plate will be held at Flemington Racecourse as the redevelopment of Moonee Valley Racecourse continues, creating a rare chapter in the event's storied history.

On Saturday, 24 October, witness the 106th running of the W.S. Cox Plate and experience the pinnacle of weight-for-age racing in Australia's Best Race. Headlined by the $6 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Cox Plate, the race day program also features the Club's oldest race, the Group 2 Ladbrokes Moonee Valley Gold Cup, alongside a stellar line-up of elite Spring Carnival racing.

GETTING TO FLEMINGTON
It is strongly recommended to travel by train to Flemington Racecourse Station.

🚆 Train
From Flinders Street: Express services every 6 minutes from 10:10 am, departing Platforms 8 and 9.
From Southern Cross: Services every 6 minutes from 10:22 am, stopping at North Melbourne only.
Return Services: Trains depart Flemington Racecourse every 4 minutes from 1:35 pm, stopping at Showgrounds, North Melbourne and Southern Cross before arriving at Flinders Street. The last train departs at 9:02 pm.

🚋 Tram
Yarra Trams: Route 57 operates regularly to Stop 30, located outside the main gates of Flemington Racecourse.

🚗 Parking
Public parking: Not available on Cox Plate Day. Rideshare and Taxi drop-off and collection points are available.

The Valley is undergoing a major redevelopment. The track and facilities will be closed from late 2025 for renovation — including reconfiguration of the racecourse and construction of new grandstands.

The 2026 Cox Plate will be held at Flemington Racecourse — operated by Victoria Racing Club (VRC). This marks the first time in the race’s history that it will be run at a track other than The Valley.

The 2026 Moonee Valley Gold Cup will be held on the same day as The Ladbrokes Cox Plate, breaking away from the traditional two-day Carnival held at The Valley.

The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October 2026.

Yes. Members of both MVRC (The Valley) and VRC (Flemington) will have access to Flemington on Cox Plate Day.

Yes — the sponsorship remains intact, and the 2026 meeting at Flemington will continue under the title “Ladbrokes Cox Plate.”

: After an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, Flemington’s bid — submitted by the VRC — was selected. The decision was based on factors including ability to handle attendance, wagering and engagement, and confidence that Flemington could deliver a high-quality track and event presentation.

The redevelopment at Moonee Valley is expected to finish by mid-2027. Once works are complete and the track is ready, the Cox Plate is expected to return to The Valley for its traditional home
