Summer's autumn assignments

Co-trainer Tony McEvoy was pleased with filly Arabian Summer's return to Victoria after her successful trip to Queensland, with a previously unplanned trial at Geelong on Wednesday reflecting how well the three-year-old has come through her travels.

The daughter of Too Darn Hot won her first-up assignment on the Gold Coast last December, the GC1000 3YO Plate, before running third in the Magic Millions Sunlight Plate (1100m) at the Sunshine Coast behind Private Harry and Lady Of Camelot earlier this month.

"After the super run she put in for us … she went out to Newington Farm and had seven to 10 days to herself, just keeping her muscle out there and going out in the paddock during the day, just a bit of a reward for her great effort," McEvoy said.

"She came back to Ballarat and she's been back here about three weeks, she was just doing really well.

"We hadn't planned originally to give her this jumpout, but she was just thriving in the stable and we just thought there's a chance she's going to do too well, so we brought her here today and she loved it."

Regular jockey Harry Coffey was in the saddle as she ran a close second to Mr Brightside in the 1000m heat on Wednesday morning.

"We opened her lungs up a little bit here - we said to Harry, give her a little hit-out, she's doing well, she's sound, she's in great order and she looked very full in the paddock," he said.

"She flew the gates and controlled and she rallied when Mr B came up next to her, she wanted to go again."

A likely Victorian racetrack return will take place in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes on February 8 against her own age and sex, with the contest a fork in the road towards a potential tilt at the G1 Oakleigh Plate or alternate Group targets.

"She'd need to be pretty dominant against her own age and sex for us to consider going against the open sprinters," McEvoy added.
