James McDonald pats Romantic Warrior
James McDonald’s mum Diane has spoken of her pride in her son after he claimed back-to-back Cox Plates.
The talented New Zealand-born jockey put in a memorable ride on Hong Kong superstar Romantic Warrior, lifting him over the line to defeat Mr Brightside in one of the tightest finishes in the race’s history.
McDonald’s wife, Katelyn, and Diane were on hand to welcome him back to the winner’s stalls with both emotional about his achievement.
He guided superstar Anamoe to victory in last year’s Cox Plate.
“He puts a lot of effort into it, homework. He does endless homework,” Diane said.
“He’s just very dedicated, a great human and a great son. “
