Champion jockey Blake Shinn made it a winning treble when Coeur Volante won the Group 2 Scarborough Stakes (1200m, 3yo fillies), but he has again been suspended.
Shinn pleaded guilty to careless riding in the fourth race when he fell from Fasuto. Racing Victoria stewards said there was insufficient room to take the gap, which resulted in him clipping heels.
Shinn was suspended for 14 meetings which will begin on Monday, October 2, and he will be back riding on Saturday, October 14, which is Caulfield Guineas Day. He will miss the Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington.
Coeur Volante’s trainer Mike Moroney said the change in date of the Thousand Guineas to November 18 would give her the chance to get to that race.
Moroney said after Coeur Volante won her second start at Sandown Hillside in June, he decided to give her a break and then bring her back for the spring.
Moroney said Coeur Volante was suited by the speed in the race and the fact that Shinn doesn’t get much wrong.
Shinn said it was a sensational performance to win coming from where she was.
“Full credit to Mike who’s prepped her up nicely with the Thousand Guineas in mind, and it was a great win tonight as she was first-up against some decent fillies that have had the run under their belt,” Shinn said.
“I rode her conservatively, so she’d be strong late, and things didn’t happen as I would’ve liked from the turn onwards, but she was good enough to pull herself off the canvas and deliver the goods.”
Shinn said he recovered from the fall without a problem.
