Morton keeps faith in Elite Street

Trainer Danny Morton says he hasn't lost faith in stable star Elite Street despite two below-par performances in Victoria this preparation.

But the four-year-old will get his chance at redemption in Friday night's Group 1 William Reid Stakes at The Valley, with Morton hopeful a return around a bend could be the missing ingredient the sprinter needs to show his best.

Elite Street was well beaten first-up in the Black Caviar Lightning and didn't get any cover when finishing 11th in the Newmarket last start.

Morton is confident jockey Jye McNeil will be able to ride him where he is best suited from barrier three.

"I haven't lost faith in the horse, he's in super shape. I'm very happy with him," Morton said.

"We are back around a corner, the straight has been a disaster for him. On paper at least there looks like there will be good speed and he will get his opportunity to settle back in the run and hopefully hitting the line hard.

"His best pattern of racing is just being back off them, so hopefully he gets that chance.

"You just want to be competitive. He just hasn't been competitive yet. I don't think I brought the wrong horse, I think he is a high-class horse and he's pretty inexperienced.

"You just need to get out there and be competitive."

Elite Street is currently a $61 chance with Sportsbet for the William Reid.
