Moody and Nolen close on milestone

Peter Moody's largely self-imposed exile aside, the Moody-Luke Nolen combination has been a mainstay of Victorian racing for 15 years and the pair is on the cusp of a major milestone.

No trainer-jockey combination has more wins in this country, possibly the world, and if Nolen can boot home all three of Moody's horses at The Valley on Friday night, they'll bring up victory number 800.

"All three can run well," Moody said on his podcast Moody On The Mic.

Cernan will kick things off for the 54-time Group 1-winning trainer in Race 3, stepping to the Cox Plate distance of 2040 metres after running fifth over 1600m first-up at The Valley last start.

"His work has been good, unfortunately he's drawn a bit wide in (barrier) 11, so how the track plays will dictate his chances," Moody said.

Vidiano looks the best chance of the night for Moody despite stepping up to G3 level at just her fourth start after breaking her maiden at Pakenham four weeks ago.

"She only won a maiden last start at Pakenham, but I think she's got good Stakes potential," he said.

Vidiano sits on the third line of betting, with the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Chica Fuerte - who was bred by Moody and his friend Anthony Mithen - a dominant favourite.

In Good Health will contest the G2 Sunline Stakes and is well in the market for what looks a wide-open race.

"I think she's well suited there on Friday night," he said.

"She was good at Flemington when she resumed (but) didn't get a lot of galloping room, so with a smaller field here, gate five of eight, she can roll forward to a spot.

"A few of these are resuming and a couple out of form, I expect her to run well."

Moody will send Norway around at Mornington on Saturday as his only runner at the meeting but indicated he is not expecting a great deal from the five-year-old gelding.
