Surprise co-favourite in All-Star Mile

The $5 million All-Star Mile in March is open to all-comers and one betting outlet is open to a big surprise after installing Hong Kong superstar Golden Sixty as the race's co-favourite.

Sportsbet this week put up Golden Sixty as the $7 equal favorite alongside Russian Camelot to win the world's richest mile race at The Valley on March 13 after he made it 14 wins from 15 starts by easily accounting for an elite international field in the Hong Kong Mile.

Racing Victoria's Executive General Manger - Racing, Greg Carpenter, confirmed on Wednesday that connections of Golden Sixty could enter the horse, as can owners of horses anywhere throughout the world.

"We have not received an entry and haven't had any indication that he will be coming but it is open for everyone to enter for the race by January 11," Carpenter said.

"I think he would surely deserve to be the favourite, but I haven't had any discussions with the connections of Golden Sixty."

Owners of horses have been able to enter their horse for The All-Star Mile since the first week of December, with a public vote to then decide 10 contenders and RV wielding five golden tickets for elite horses to make the final field of 15 courtesy of wildcards.

Golden Sixty, who is raced in Hong Kong by Stanley Chan Ka Leung, was bred in Australia and was sold as a yearling on the Gold Coast for $120,000 before he was picked up at a Sydney ready-to-run sale for $300,000 and sent to Hong Kong.
