Hustle hints at high-class ability

Jason Warren unveiled the best two-year-old he's ever trained on Saturday when Brooklyn Hustle destroyed her rivals in a brilliant winning debut at The Valley.

Despite missing the start and settling last, the daughter of Starspangledbanner let down with a lightning finish over the final 400m to coast to a two-length victory over Darren Weir's Rubick colt Yes Yes Yes.

The Valley's on-course Trakus data clocked Brooklyn Hustle's last 600m in 33.16 seconds and her final 200m - she was eased up by jockey Beau Mertens with 30m to go - in 10.96s.

Warren said Brooklyn Hustle would be given an immediate freshen-up at Rosemont Stud ahead of a late summer campaign aimed at the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

"She's easily the best two-year-old I've had but in saying that I haven't had heaps," Warren said.

"I would have to benchmark her against Lee Freedman's two-year-olds when I was working there, I'm not going to say she's an Alinghi but she's certainly better than anything I've had.

"We didn't have her wound up today, the Cranbourne trial on Monday was very soft.

"I said to Beau before the race today that she was very good but I wasn't sure how good.

"Her short-term plan is the Blue Diamond and she will go back to Rosemont on Monday and have a freshen-up there.

"She will have a run (before the Diamond), it might only be one but we'll just sit down and work it out."

The win continued a fruitful week for Warren, who confirmed plans to campaign last-start winners Bel Sonic and Miss Toorak Flyer on Magic Millions Raceday on the Gold Coast next month.
