Easy Inglis payday for Espaaniyah

Speedy filly Espaaniyah gave Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott back-to-back wins in the lucrative Inglis Banner (1000m) with a dominant front-running performance at The Valley on Saturday.

The daughter of I Am Invincible made all under Tim Clark and, while she'd stolen a break on her rivals at the 400m and looked as though she'd be hard to catch, her task was made easier when True Serendipity shifted off the track and took several key rivals with her at the 300m.

Lindsay Park two-year-old Biscara stuck on gamely to hold second while Ciaron Maher and David Eustace's Unencumbered filly Salome was the eye-catcher, running on late to claim third.

Like her stablemate and 2017 Inglis Banner winner Setsuna, Bott said Espaaniyah, a $750,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase, could back up in the Group 3 Bumble Stakes (1000m) on Melbourne Cup Day before the stable turns its attention to next year's Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).

"She's one of the more precocious two-year-olds we've got, hence the reason she's down here today," Bott said.

"We identified her early in her training up in Sydney and obviously she put in a nice trial there before coming down here and jumping out well before today's performance.

"She's by I Am Invincible and one of the real natural, running types.

"Hopefully she'll be Golden Slipper material."

Saturday's $500,000 feature was the first leg of Inglis' new juvenile Triple Crown and, if Espaaniyah can add the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1200m) in February and G1 Inglis Sires' (1400m) during The Championships, she will bank her connections a whopping $3m bonus.
