Humidor will head to the Melbourne Cup following his slashing second placing behind Winx in the Cox Plate.
The five-year-old looked like he might cause one of the great upsets at the top of the straight before eventually finishing a long-neck behind the champion mare.
Trainer Darren Weir said he never lost faith in the son of Teofilo after his fifth placing in the Caulfield Cup, which he blamed on an overly aggressive ride.
"It wasn't the right decision to go forward last week (in the Caulfield Cup) and that's the way he's trained, to relax and be strong late," Weir said.
"He's not a Winx, he can't win everything and we've got a goal to win the Melbourne Cup and that's what I'm aiming him towards."
Weir acknowledged the application of blinkers on Humidor for the first time since he joined his stable as also having a positive impact on the horse's performance.
"They needed to go on at the right time, that was the key," he said.
Weir said Gailo Chop would likely head to the paddock following his fifth placing.
"He didn't pull up that well, Mark (Zahra) said he didn't feel that good coming back," Weir said.
"We'll have a look at him tomorrow morning but he's had a great preparation."
Humidor firmed from as much as $26 in Melbourne Cup betting prior to the Cox Plate to equal $6.50 favourite with CrownBet.
