Door delivers McDonald a double

Revolving Door completed a big day for trainer Clinton McDonald when the three-year-old resumed with a victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Epworth Medical Imaging Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The victory followed McDonald’s earlier triumph with two-year-old filly Pure Emotion in the opening race on the program and provided the Caulfield-based trainer with a first metropolitan double.

McDonald said a recent gelding operation may prove the key to Revolving Door delivering on the promise he’d shown earlier in his career.

“He’s always been a nice horse and obviously being gelded has really helped him,” McDonald said.

“It has switched him on and he’s a racehorse now instead of worrying about other things.

“He’s always had the ability and it’s great to see him win today.

“We were a little bit worried because we didn’t think he’d have the speed to get (outside the leader) but once he jumped well Mark (Zahra) made the decision and that’s why you put these good jockeys on.”

McDonald said Revolving Door would likely have his next start in next month’s A.R. Creswick Series Final (1200m) at Flemington.
