National Jockey’s Trust T20 cricket match a great success

The Jockeys team has edged out the Racing All Stars to win the National Jockey’s Trust (NJT) annual cricket match at Caulfield Park.

A record $84,517 was raised for the NJT, which supports jockeys and their families in times of hardship.

The MVRC sponsored Cox Plate-winning jockey Steven Arnold, who looked in good touch for the Jockeys team before falling to a stunning caught and bowled effort from Racing.com journalist Brad Bishop.

“It means a lot to us jockeys, the trust, and all the support we’re getting today,” said Arnold.

“Obviously there are guys out here who have lost family being a jockey so all that sort of support helps and I’d like to thank everyone for their support and donations.”

Enjoying all the action on the sidelines was The Valley’s own Coxy and Hoofa and a host of MVRC members and special guests.

The stars for the Jockeys team were Man of the Match Brad Rawiller, Brenton Avdulla and Luke Currie, while Melbourne Cup winning jockeys Michelle Payne and Damien Oliver also pulled on the whites.

Former AFL player Cameron Ling and 1970 Brownlow medallist and former Victorian cricket Peter Bedford were the best for the Racing All Stars.

Those supporting the event were treated to a guest appearance from 1992 Melbourne Cup winning horse Subzero, while former Australian cricketer Merv Hughes was on hand to help the Jockeys team get over the line.
