Te Akau buy Peters galloper

Te Akau Racing have taken on the challenge of rejuvenating Group 2 Perth Cup winner Midnight Blue.

The Kiwi syndicators parted with $92,500 for the seven-year-old from Bob Peters last week via Inglis Digital and is being trained at Cranbourne under Mark Walker.

“We had quite a few people enquire and we didn’t really have much available and we saw him online and did our due diligence, vet checks et cetera. and he vetted well so we thought why not,” Walker explained of the purchase.

“We think the Ballarat Cup in early December will really suit him and a lead up run maybe the Cranbourne Cup.”

Midnight Blue joins Superstorm and Western Empire as other Peters-owned horses to be sold.

The son of So You Think finished fifth first-up from a spell in the Seymour Cup on October 22.

Midnight Blue worked at Caulfield on Tuesday morning.

“He’s an interesting horse… we just felt sometimes those older horses a change of environment,” Walker said.

“He came in really good order but with Cranbourne’s facilities being second to none and maybe just working him out the back in the sand dunes track and the hill might be something he needs to reignite him.

“If that doesn’t, maybe Warrnambool in a maiden hurdle in May.”
