Imperatriz’s love affair continued at The Valley on Saturday as she defended her crown in the 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes.The Mark Walker mare had to do it the hard way, left three-wide without cover before the 600m.The Valley crowd roared as Imperatriz loomed before the turn, and she again took the bend with aplomb.&nbsp;She sprinted to the front, but she had a surprise challenger down the straight in Johnny Rocker.&nbsp;The Nick Ryan four-year-old made the gigantic leap from a Benchmark 78 to a Group 1 Weight-For-Age sprint, but showed he’s a horse on a rapid rise, testing Imperatriz to the line.&nbsp;He couldn’t catch Imperatriz however, with the Queen of The Valley holding off Johnny Rocker by a head, with a gap of two lengths back to I Am Me.&nbsp;It made it back-to-back victories for Imperatriz in the $1 million 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes, becoming the first horse since Apache Cat in 2008/2009 to achieve the feat.&nbsp;The win also takes her record to a perfect five at The Valley, with Black Caviar’s undefeated record at the track of seven wins now in sight.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a rollercoaster forty minutes for Te Akua Racing, with the Mark Walker and Opie Bosson combination denied by the barest of margins in the Group 2 DCE Alister Clark Stakes, as Antrim Coast for fellow New Zealander Stephen Marsh, prevailed in a bobbing finish at big odds.&nbsp;It was a day jockey Thomas Stockdale won't forget, combining with Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr for two Group 3 wins.&nbsp;Exciting three-year-old filly Vibrant Sun took out the Dynamic Print Group Alexander Stakes, while Gumdrops picked up her second Stakes win at The Valley in the PKF Don Casboult Classic.&nbsp;There was plenty to celebrate for the Ciaron Maher stable, clinching four victories at the meeting, including Extratwo's triumph in the final race, the Ladbroke It! Moonee Valley track manager Marty&nbsp;Synan&nbsp;long wait for racing to return will be over this Saturday and he couldn’t be happier with its condition.The last meeting held at The Valley was the William Reid Stakes day on March 30 and the annual renovation followed.Synan&nbsp;said in terms of grass cover the course couldn’t look any better.Synan&nbsp;said the rail would be in the true position. He said last year when they returned to racing it was at the end of July and at that meeting they had the rail out five metres.“There’s no poa in it. I couldn’t be happier,”&nbsp;Synan&nbsp;said.“The week is looking good with the weather Gods with us. It should race evenly and they will get into it a bit.”

The Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) in conjunction with York Race Committee have confirmed the Group 1 Juddmonte International (2063 metres) on Wednesday 21 August as the third and final Ladbrokes Cox Plate International Invitational Qualifier. Entries for the record purse of £1,250,000 (AUD $2.4 million) feature are headed by 123-rated City Of Troy, the current highest rated turf colt in the world, with two current Ladbrokes Cox Plate nominated horses among the chances.&nbsp;Alongside the favourite for the race, champion trainer Aidan O’Brien also has bold frontrunner Hans Anderson. Harry Eustace will run 115-rated Docklands in his first look at 2000 metres, with OTI’s Terry Henderson already stating his intentions for the 2024 Ladbrokes Cox Plate.&nbsp;This year’s Juddmonte International looks a stellar edition and set to be the best race in Europe this year with two French stars from Royal Ascot, Calandangan and Zaraken due to take on the best in Britain and Ireland alongside Japanese Group 1 St Leger winner, Durezza. In 2023 the Juddmonte International received an outstanding rating of 122.25, making it the 10th highest-rated Group 1 in the world as assessed by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA). Moonee Valley Racing Club are delighted to announce Myeloma Australia as the Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin partner for the next three years.&nbsp;The Cox Plate Charity Pin serves as MVRC's key fundraising initiative during the Spring Racing Carnival, providing support and promoting awareness for the chosen charity partner.Myeloma Australia is the sole not-for-profit organisation in the country dedicated specifically to supporting those affected by myeloma.Moonee Valley Racing Club Head of Commercial Rozalee Erceg said the Club was excited to partner with Myeloma Australia for the next three years.“The Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin is such an important initiative for MVRC, and we are looking forward to working with Myeloma Australia to not only generate important funds but also to increase public understanding of myeloma and its impact on the community.”“There will be many opportunities for people to support Myeloma Australia during the Spring Carnival. The Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) is proud to announce the renewal of its partnership with the JRA (Japanese Racing Association), with the winner of Sunday’s Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Kyoto again being offered a subsidised invitation into the 2024 Ladbrokes Cox Plate.The Takarazuka Kinen is the first of two fan-voted All-Star races during the Japanese racing season (the second being the Group 1 Arima Kinen run in December), and boasts a prizemoney pool of ¥ 475,200,000, equivalent to AUD $4.5 million.In 2019 Japanese Horse of the Year Lys Gracieux won the Takarazuka Kinen, prior to coming to Australia where she made history by becoming the first Japanese horse to win the Ladbrokes Cox Plate. The Yoshito Yahagi trained mare was ridden by Australian jockey Damian Lane in both victories.Last year the Takarazuka Kinen was won by Equinox, who was judged as the Longines World’s Best Racehorse for 2023 with a remarkable international rating of 135. Moonee Valley Racing Club:&nbsp;<a href="https://goo.gl/maps/W5HAjYBsrKz">Feehan Avenue, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039</a>CAR: The Centre Car Park is located in the centre of the race track. Car park entry is via Gate 7 on Wilson Street (near freeway) or Gate 6 on Dean Street. There will also be several dedicated car park spots at the Centre Car Park for those vehicles displaying a disability parking permit.Note for members: MVRC Members can access the centre car park via Gate 7 on Wilson Street or Gate 6 on Dean Street on a raceday, with a dedicated Members' area located near the centre turnstiles. On non-racedays, a designated Member/Visitor Car Park will be located in the Horse Float Car Park near the Main Gate on Feehan Avenue (previously McPherson Street), with walking access to the administration building.TRAIN: Craigieburn line from Flinders St Station, stops at Moonee Ponds. MVRC is a 10 minute walk down Puckle Street.TRAM: No.59 tram from Elizabeth St arrives directly at Moonee Ponds junction. MVRC main entrance is a 200m walk.TAXIS: Taxis can be located after the races on Feehan Avenue.
