The Group 1 Ladbrokes William Reid Stakes is a highlight of the Autumn Carnival, attracting Australia’s best sprinters each year.
In 2026, the race enters a new chapter. With the ongoing redevelopment of Moonee Valley Racecourse, the Group 1 sprint will be run at MRC Caulfield for the first time.
The Ladbrokes William Reid Stakes will headline a massive day of racing, featuring six black-type races on the card.
ABOUT THE WILLIAM REID STAKES
First run in 1925, the William Reid Stakes boasts an honour roll filled with champion sprinters. Manikato famously won the race an extraordinary five consecutive times, while Apache Cat, Black Caviar and Imperatriz are among the modern greats to claim multiple victories.
Run over 1200 metres, it is one of The Valley’s premier weight-for-age sprints.
Off the track, it’s a race day you won’t want to miss, with live music, great food and dining options, and free entry for kids.
Past winners reflect the quality of the contest — horses that didn’t just win on the day, but shaped sprinting seasons.
