Tony Ottobre believes a horse like Pride of Jenni only comes around every 20 years, but even her proud owner might be selling short his bold-front running mare with the history she is chasing in Sunday’s Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes.The likes of Vo Rogue, Might and Power and The Cleaner will long be remembered for their racing patterns in their respective eras, but before any of those horses came along was a horse named Shorengro.Shorengro is the only horse in 78 editions of the Feehan Stakes to win the race on three occasions with Maurie Willmott’s galloper saluting between 1968-1970.56 years on and it’s a nine-year-old mare who could sit alongside him on the honour roll.“Maybe every 20 years you’ll get a horse who can do what she does,” Ottobre explained. “I’d hate to be in the position racing against Pride of Jenni.“If you want to keep up with us, you’re going to be running at a fast speed.“The Feehan Stakes has always been a great race for her and to have three trophies the same would be mind boggling.”Ottobre, a former apprentice jockey himself, admits finding a rider brave enough to execute the front running tactics was half of the battle early in her career.That journey with Ottobre started in 2019 when he paid $100,000 for the daughter of Pride of Dubai – taken by her shape and attitude on the Inglis sales grounds and having that “X-factor” look.13 wins, an Australian Horse of the Year title and $12.5 million in prizemoney later, Ottobre can’t believe the ride is entering its seventh racing season - and didn’t rule out an eighth racing season.“Not a hope in hell,” Ottobre said of predicting her racing journey.&nbsp;“She’s an incredible horse… she has a heart as big as the world.“She’s nine years old and she’s as good as ever if not better.“Look out this spring!”Pride of Jenni’s two Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes winss have certainly been memorable with a much hyped four-horse contest in 2024 and ending short-priced favourite Treasurethe Moment’s winning run in 2025.

The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.&nbsp;In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.
