Over the past six weeks, the transformation of the site has continued at an impressive pace, with the new racecourse taking shape as we reach each significant milestone.

July 2026: MVRC Redevelopment Update

Welcome to the latest redevelopment update.

Over the past six weeks, the transformation of the site has continued at an impressive pace, with the new racecourse taking shape as we reach each significant milestone.

Symal continues to make excellent progress across the project, with civil works advancing steadily throughout the site. The completion of new track lighting along Dean Street and Wilson Street marks another important project milestone, while the installation of the remaining stewards' towers is scheduled for the coming weeks. Works on the North-South Road, which will separate Moonee Valley Park from the new racecourse, are also progressing well.

We have also reached another significant milestone with the handover of the second portion of the track to our turf partner, Evergreen Turf. This enables the next phase of works to commence, including the installation of the drainage and irrigation systems that will underpin the new racing surface ahead of the turf being laid later this year.

Over the coming months, we expect to be able to walk the full circumference of the new track for the first time. Reaching this milestone will provide our first opportunity to truly appreciate the scale of the project and see the vision for The Valley of Tomorrow come to life.

As we look ahead, the new racing season is fast approaching, and anticipation is building for the 2026 Spring Carnival. Tickets for the 2026 Ladbrokes Cox Plate at Flemington Racecourse are now on sale, with hospitality and dining experiences already proving popular. MVRC Members can simply scan their membership card on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day to gain access to the Members' Enclosure at Flemington. If you are planning to enhance your race day experience with a hospitality package or reserved grandstand seat, I encourage you to secure your booking as soon as possible.

The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.

A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.

The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.

In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.

On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.

Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.

With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.
