Sharing Moment scorches turf in Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge

Scott Cameron is the clubhouse leader for Series 2 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge following Sharing Moments first-up win at Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights Southside Cranbourne last week.Damian Lane made his one ride for the evening count when the daughter of Overshare scorched the turf at 55.56 for the 955 metres.The mare had not raced in 10 months since her maiden win and now sees her Flemington trainer lead the series – which still has four heats remaining.The trainer of the fastest horse of the seven heats at Southside Cranbourne will receive a $25,000 cheque with thanks to Ladbrokes.&nbsp;“She is a good filly and we thought she was ready,” Cameron said.“I would usually try and find an easier race but we were being greedy.“Damian was a bit soft on her late so I don’t think he remembered he was in the Challenge!”Sharing Moments banked $47,000 for last weeks victory.The four-year-old was bred by family friend Bernie Brennan and Cameron’s mum Judy, who also raced the dam with Cameron named Melting Moment.Her final foal certainly looks to have her fair share of talent having never missed a place in four outings.Cameron’s friend Damian Lane has now ridden the mare in both her outings and predicts a bright future.“I wasn’t a big wrap on coming out here when he first asked me but he was confident she can win and I am happy to play my part,” Lane explained.“I didn’t think I would get across that easy but she was tough at both ends and did a good job.”&nbsp;Heat 4 of Series 2 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge will be conducted this evening with the $100,000 final to be held on March 13 at Southside Cranbourne.

The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.&nbsp;In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.
