Logan Bates and Cindy Alderson are dreaming of hometrack success in the $1 million The Meteorite on Saturday at Cranbourne as Jigsaw represents the Moonee Valley Racing Club.

Jigsaw fits Meteorite puzzle

Jigsaw’s Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day win came with an added bonus last month, with the winner of the Group 2 Cirka McEwen Stakes offered the Moonee Valley Racing slot in the $1 million Meteorite at Cranbourne on November 22.Cindy Alderson’s speedy galloper showed at seven years of age he was in vintage form with a dominant all-the-way win under Logan Bates – form he is hoping to take back to his hometrack later this month after accepting the Club’s slot last week.“It’s something you don’t expect to happen with a seven-year-old gelding who had lost form for a while,” Alderson admitted.“But it’s very special to have Logan involved and it be on our hometrack.“It’s a track I have been at now for over 40 years now so there is a lot of history here.“Fortunately, I think he likes Cranbourne as well, so we have a lot of boxes ticked.“I am rapt to be able to support the race and rapt Moonee Valley gave me such generous terms.”Moonee Valley Racing Club’s 2024 slot holder Baraqiel finished third in The Meteorite after winning the McEwen Stakes. This year he went on to win the Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes at The Valley.Jigsaw has shown a distinct liking for not only The Valley where he won the Group 2 Australia Stakes in 2023 but Cranbourne as well where he has twice won the Apache Cat Classic.“He does like a rail and he is particularly potent when he’s on the fence and he loves a corner so both Moonee Valley and Cranbourne play to his strengths,” Alderson explained.“He is a very balanced horse so he gets around the corner without losing too much ground which is difficult for a horse traveling at that speed to do.“We are happy to go this way, it’s a great initiative and great prizemoney.”Jigsaw is the first runner announced for the $1 million Meteorite to be held on Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup Day (November 22) with the MVRC also represented with a slot in the $ 1 million Supernova on Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup Day (December 13).

The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.&nbsp;In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.
