Young Riders Set for State Championships at The Valley

<p>The Moonee Valley Racing Club is proud to once again host the State Championships of Pony Club Victoria’s Ride To Time this Saturday on Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes Day.</p><p>The Championship brings together the best young riders from across Victoria, showcasing their precision and control as they aim to match an optimum time around the track.</p><p>Two classes will take to The Valley course on Saturday. The Maiden Class will compete prior to the opening race of the meeting, riding to a target time of 2:00 minutes (5 x 24-second furlongs). The Open Class will follow between races two and three, with a target time of 1:49 (4 x 22-second furlongs and 1 x 21-second furlong).</p><p>Each event will feature 10 finalists who have qualified through zone competitions, giving 20 riders from pony clubs across the state the chance to compete on a metropolitan track at a Group 1 race meeting.</p><p>For 14 competitors, Saturday marks their first ride at the State Championship, including the entire Maiden field. At the other end of the scale, Open Class competitor Tracey Gorick will make her seventh and final appearance at the finals, before ageing out of Pony Club.</p><p>Among Saturday’s field will be seven Off The Track thoroughbreds, part of Racing Victoria’s program dedicated to supporting and promoting retired racehorses.</p><p>Moonee Valley Racing Club Head of Commercial, Rozalee Erceg, said it was always a highlight to see talented young riders perform on such a big stage.</p><p>“It’s fantastic to work alongside Pony Club Victoria and see the next generation showcase their skills in front of a large crowd on a Group 1 day at The Valley. 2025 Ride To Time State Championships

<p>The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.</p><p>A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.</p><p>The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.&nbsp;</p><p>In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.</p><p>On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;</p><p>Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.</p><p>With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.</p>
