MOONEE VALLEY RACING CLUB APPOINT SYMAL TO DELIVER RACECOURSE REDEVELOPMENT

The Moonee Valley Racing Club is pleased to announce that Symal has been appointed to undertake the civil and infrastructure works for the new Moonee Valley Racecourse precinct.&nbsp; The Club has awarded the ~$70 million contract for civil works following the successful completion of an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process, during which it worked closely with Symal’s technical and design management teams to address key design and operational elements of the project.The partnership has paved the way for construction to commence following the 2025 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival. This marks a significant step forward in delivering ‘The Valley of Tomorrow’, guided by the Club’s long-term vision and strategic planning.&nbsp;It is an exciting time for the Club, our members, and the Moonee Valley community as we move later this year into the delivery phase of a world-class racecourse and facilities that will shape the future of racing at The Valley.&nbsp;The scope of work includes bulk earthworks and services, full track reconstruction, new racing infrastructure, upgraded underpasses, retaining walls and the installation of new track lighting. It follows the appointment of Evergreen Turf as the turf provider for the new racecourse, which is currently growing at their Pakenham farm.&nbsp;“The Moonee Valley Racing Club is delighted to appoint Symal as our partner to deliver the new Moonee Valley Racecourse precinct civil and infrastructure works,” MVRC Chair Adam Lennen said.&nbsp;“Symal has a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects, and this appointment marks a significant milestone for the Club as we prepare to embark on delivering our vision for ‘The Valley of Tomorrow’ following the 2025 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival.”&nbsp;“Delivering ‘The Valley of Tomorrow’ takes more than building, it takes foresight, trust and true partnership,” said Symal Group Managing Director Joe Bartolo.&nbsp;“Our ECI approach enabled early decisions around constructability and cost, helping shape a smarter program and cost solutions that gave the Club real certainty and confidence.”&nbsp;The Club looks forward to working with Symal to deliver a venue that supports the next generation of racing at The Valley.

The Valley will once again play host to a leg of the National Pony Racing Series, with the Victorian event set to take place on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, Saturday 22 March.A collaboration between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC), the series is designed to educate young riders on careers in the racing and breeding industry, giving them a taste of professional competition on major racedays.The series features six race meetings across Australia, culminating in the national finals in June. Before the Victorian leg, Ballarat hosted a Jumpstart weekend, where participants received riding instruction, horse health education, career insights, and rider fitness training.&nbsp;In preparation for their big moment on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day, competitors will also take part in a training day at The Valley to familiarise themselves with the track.On Saturday, two pony races will be held for state finalists aged 9 to 15. The first, over 450m at 11:30 am, is for ponies not exceeding 12.2hh, while the second, over 700m, is for ponies not exceeding 14hh. That event will take place following Race 3 on the card at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;Moonee Valley Racing Club has enjoyed its association with TIC and Pony Club Australia, providing young riders with the opportunity to gain experience on a major racing stage. The Valley hosted a leg of the first National Pony Racing Series in 2023, and last year on 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes Day held a Shetland Pony Race.With the next generation of riders set to take centre stage once again, The Valley looks forward to another thrilling chapter in this growing series.
