Baraqiel was an impressive winner of the Mittys McEwen Stakes

Baraqiel to run in MVRC's slot in inaugural The Meteorite

The Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) are proud to partner with Bennett Racing and Malua Racing, with the announcement that the Leon & Troy Corstens & Will Larkin trained Baraqiel will run in the MVRC slot in the inaugural $1 million ‘The Meteorite’ on Cranbourne Cup Day, Saturday 23 November.

Baraqiel was an impressive 2.75 length winner of the Group 2 Mittys McEwen Stakes on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day, which granted him an automatic invitation to take The Valley’s slot in Southside Racing’s new feature sprint, which was accepted by connections earlier today.

With a record of nine starts for six wins, two placings and already accumulating $473,025 in prize money, Baraqiel is undoubtedly one of the rising stars of the Australian sprinting ranks.

Baraqiel ran a brave sixth in Saturday’s Group 1 Champions Sprint at Flemington and will be one of the main horses to beat in The Meteorite.

“The Meteorite is a fantastic new initiative by Southside Racing, and we are very excited to have a great chance in the inaugural running of the race”, MVRC Head Of Racing Charlotte Mills said.

“Baraqiel was excellent winning the Mittys McEwen Stakes on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day and acquitted himself well against Australia’s best sprinters on the weekend.

We are grateful connections have accepted our invitation and are very much looking forward to Cranbourne Cup Day.”

Trainer Troy Corstens said “I’m super excited to have the MVRC slot in the first ever Meteorite.”

“I think that Baraqiel is a perfect horse for the Cranbourne event, and I look forward to seeing what we can do in it.”

Nathan Bennett, Founder of Bennett Racing, added “We’re very excited to be part of the Southside Racing slot race with the MVRC slot and can’t wait to see Baraqiel back around the bend at Cranbourne.”
