Thirsty Merc's Rai Thistlethwayte with the 2024 Ladbrokes Cox Plate
With tickets for the 2024 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival now on sale, Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) are delighted to reveal that Australian rock band Thirsty Merc will ignite The Valley on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day (October 26) with a post-race concert.
Dining packages and tickets for the 2024 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival went on sale to the general public at 10 am on Tuesday.
The concert will cap off a legendary day, open to all Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day ticketholders.
Thirsty Merc has sold over 250,000 albums and produced a string of hits, including In the Summertime, 20 Good Reasons, Someday, Someday, and Emancipate Myself.
The band will also perform The Horses, the anthem of the day, in the lead-up to the $5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
Thirsty Merc's lead singer, Rai Thistlethwayte, said the band was looking forward to performing at The Valley in front of an anticipated sell-out crowd.
“We can’t wait to hit the stage for a massive post-race concert as well as playing the iconic Australian song, The Horses, prior to the Cox Plate.”
“Daryl Braithwaite is a good friend of ours, so it’s exciting to have the opportunity to perform his classic hit, which has become a tradition on the day, in front of a packed crowd of 20,000 at The Valley.”
Set across two spectacular meetings, the Carnival commences under lights on Friday, 25 October with Ladbrokes Gold Cup Night.
The exclusive pre-sale for MVRC members has generated unprecedented demand for dining and hospitality packages.
MVRC General Manager—Marketing & Communications Troy Ratcliffe said the response from members reflected the excitement already surrounding this year’s Carnival.

The Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day post-race concert is one of several exciting features of this year's Spring Carnival at The Valley, with MVRC planning to unveil more thrilling concepts in the coming months.
