Peter Moody and Jamie Kah have been regular visitors to the winners’ circle over the Summer Festival at The Valley and they combined for the performance of the night on Friday.
Promising mare Foxicon made it back-to-back wins over the 955m at The Valley with a dominant performance in the RULE Prostate Cancer 55 Second Challenge – Heat 13.
Jumping well from gate two, Kah was able to take up a prominent position and keep third-favourite Berry Bubbly posted wide.
Foxicon cruised to the front turning for home and quickly shot away from her opposition upon straightening, going on to defeat Berry Bubbly by 3 ¼ lengths.
“Today she was very, very dominant. She was push-button,” Kah said.
“She jumped better and travelled better (than last start). She shows a lot of versatility as well.”
Kah believes if the four-year-old can get beyond 1000m, she’s got the potential to make it to stakes grade.
“She’s got the ability, she’s got the class.”
As impressive as the win was, Foxicon’s time of 55.39 wasn’t enough to topple Mutinous (54.83) in the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge.
“I did tell Jamie (Kah) to try and win me a car!” Peter Moody’s assistant trainer Katherine Coleman joked post-race.
Kah is striking at 20 per cent at The Valley this season while the Moody stable has a strike rate of 26 per cent, highlighting the dominance of both jockey and trainer.
Summerbeel was another impressive performer on the E.J. Whitten Race Night card, taking out The Orbit Logistics Valley Summer Stayers Series – Heat 5 (2040m) by 1 ¾ lengths.
It took a while for Blake Shinn to be able to get Summerbeel to move up and settle outside of hot favourite Liberated Girl, but with the tempo only fair, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare relaxed beautifully in the run.
Foxicon and Summerbeel made their charge together a long way from home, and it was the latter who got the better of the battle, defeating Mixmulti, who snuck in for second, a head in front of the favourite.
Both The Valley Summer Stayers Final and Sprinters Final will feature on next Sunday’s Community Day meeting.
Community Day kicks-off a big month at The Valley, with The Sharp EIT All-Star Mile on March 18 followed by the Night Racing Season Finale featuring The 3 Point Motors Group 1 William Reid Stakes on March 24.
