Enver eyes off Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Grand Prize

Stable star Pinstriped is the highest rated horse Cranbourne-based trainer Enver Jusufovic has ever had in his stable and could be bound for the $5 Million All-Star Mile here at The Valley in March, but while glory in Australia’s richest mile is still well and truly in mind, it is a much more unassuming horse that could’ve landed him his next major prize here at The Valley. Re-bought on an online sale and sent to Jusufovic without hesitation, airborne speedster Mutinous last Friday led from start to finish in Heat 7 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge, breaking the 55 second mark in his wake and posting a new leading time of 54.93 seconds. Ridden perfectly by Group 1 winning jockey Brian Park, Mutinous posted the fastest 600m-400m split of the entire meeting, scooting away from his rivals to not only win the race, but also better the previous fastest time of the series; 55.23 seconds set by Direct in Heat 3. The scintillating display of speed made him the first horse this season to break 55 seconds and put his trainer Enver Jusufovic in the box seat to win the $55,000 cheque at season’s end. “I’ve got a very happy horse, I’ve got very happy owners, and hopefully a happy trainer at the end of the Ladbrokes 955 series,” Jusufovic told us on Tuesday.&nbsp; “Knowing the horse is a bleeder, we trained him a little different this time in. “Being out for so long and being a gross doing horse and an older horse, he’s just taken a little while to get fit. Every run he’s improved, and he’s pretty much reached his peak now.” In the corner of Mutinous on Friday night was star Australian golfer and recent winner of The Open Championship Cameron Smith, who Jusufovic later found out had a large winning wager on the horse. Smith attended The Valley last Friday having thought he had not made the Round 3 cut for the Australian Open the next day. Already ‘a few beers deep’, Smith swiftly switched to water and sobered up for his 7am tee time on Saturday, finding out during the night that he had indeed qualified for the next round. “I got a text late that night that he was there, and he had a good bet on the horse.” “He’s a bit of a larrikin, isn’t he? I think the size of bet he had wouldn’t have affected his bank balance these days.” Jusufovic will line up another recent purchase this Friday in Heat 8 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge, who will be having his first start under new training. $800,000 Zosutar colt Philosopher joined Jusufovic earlier this Spring and has won his two jump outs leading into his first up assignment. “He had a lot of residual fitness and he’s been extremely well educated,” Jusufovic said. “We got him up to a certain level and then gave him an easy jump out. He jumped and ran and won it well.&nbsp; “In his second jump out, I just asked the rider (Logan McNeil) just to make sure he rode him through the line and just be a little more aggressive after the line as opposed to before. Because in his races, his last furlong he’s seemed to be nailed to the fence, but he’s pulled up really well. “If he didn’t have any convictions, I’d be extremely confident wherever I placed him, but at the end of the day he has got convictions – but I’m pretty happy with the horse.” Philosopher won on debut at Caulfield with a dominant SP of $2.40, but failed to deliver on that early hype and has gone winless in his next four starts. With a change of environment, a slightly easier race and crucially 955 metres this Friday night, Jusufovic will be hoping he can return to the winner’s enclosure and convert his jump out form to raceday.&nbsp; “Philosopher has a lot of speed. Can he do it at both ends? That’s the burning question.” The rail will again be in the True position this week and the track will be good, the key ingredients for more fast times over the 955 metres.We wish Enver and his team all the best as they try to hang on to the leading time for the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge, or perhaps even better it this week with Philosopher. &nbsp;
