MVRC have joined forces with Myeloma Australia

MVRC announce Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin partnership with Myeloma Australia

Moonee Valley Racing Club are delighted to announce Myeloma Australia as the Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin partner for the next three years.

The Cox Plate Charity Pin serves as MVRC's key fundraising initiative during the Spring Racing Carnival, providing support and promoting awareness for the chosen charity partner.

Myeloma Australia is the sole not-for-profit organisation in the country dedicated specifically to supporting those affected by myeloma.

Moonee Valley Racing Club Head of Commercial Rozalee Erceg said the Club was excited to partner with Myeloma Australia for the next three years.

“The Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin is such an important initiative for MVRC, and we are looking forward to working with Myeloma Australia to not only generate important funds but also to increase public understanding of myeloma and its impact on the community.”

“There will be many opportunities for people to support Myeloma Australia during the Spring Carnival. Volunteers will be selling pins on track, and a variety of engaging activities will be launched to fundraise and promote the cause, making it easy for everyone to get involved and make a difference.”

The Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin will be officially launched on Saturday, September 7, on Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes Day at The Valley and will be available for purchase throughout the Spring Racing Carnival and online at thevalley.com.au.

Myeloma is incurable blood cancer arising from malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow.

Health issues associated with myeloma can include a weakened immune system, bone destruction, anaemia, and reduced kidney function.

Myeloma Australia CEO Mark Henderson said although around 22,000 Australians are affected by myeloma, community awareness remained low.

"We thank the Moonee Valley Racing Club for their support and we are proud to become their charity partner. The myeloma community are gaining their voice, and this is another step in the right direction to educate more people about myeloma; a highly invasive and incurable blood cancer".

"Myeloma is a complex disease. 27%% of people die within 18 months of diagnosis and rates have grown 30% in recent years. Most people at diagnosis had never heard of it. This is another chance we have to raise the community’s awareness, and we thank the Moonee Valley Racing Club for their support"

All proceeds from the sale of the pins will support Myeloma Australia, in addition to various other fundraising efforts during the Spring Carnival.

Thanks to the generosity of MVRC members, racegoers, and the community, along with the work of volunteers, $113,600 was raised for charity partner Make-A-Wish Australia in 2023, bringing the total to over $250,000 across the two-year partnership.
