Yes Baby Yes dominates Fillies Classic

Yes Baby Yes showcased her superior resistance by leading throughout in Saturday's $300,000 Group 2 Lexus Fillies' Classic (1600m) at The Valley.

Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens, Yes Baby Yes ($13) dictated terms in the lead under Craig Williams to win the three-year-old fillies feature by 3.75 lengths at the ninth start of her first racing preparation.

Thousand Guineas fourth placegetter Ecumenical ($2.05 favourite) was runner-up and Miss Inbetween ($21) stayed on from her on-pace position for third, while apprentice Lewis German was suspended for his ride aboard the fifth-placed Miss Madec ($51).

"She's as tough as nails," Corstens said. "You wouldn't believe it, but she's been up since January this girl.

"Raced as a two-year-old, right into her three-year-old year. Nine runs for this prep."

Corstens said Yes Baby Yes had remained in work for so long due to enjoying short stints in the paddock between runs.

"She goes (to the farm) on a Monday morning and she'll go out in the paddock for three or four days - she still works while she's up there," Corstens said.

"Just keeps them happy. Some like going to the beach, some like going to the paddock and she likes going to the paddock.

"I just love her. She's so tough. Things haven't always gone her way, but she puts herself out in front and she held on today."

While it was a dominant front-running performance from the veteran Williams, the race turned a little sour for a jockey at the other end of his career.

The 21-year-old apprentice German was taking his first rides on Cox Plate Day and after finishing 14th on debut horse Asternishing in the Inglis Banner, he partnered Miss Madec into fifth in a performance that caught the eye of stewards.

They found the young rider had broken the whip rules in the run to the line and suspended him for eight meetings and fined him $300.
