McEvoy's spring picture set to clear up

Kerrin McEvoy's spring picture is set to become a lot clearer on Saturday.

The Group 1-winning jockey is locked in for the Melbourne Cup ride on international raider Tiger Moth, but whether he comes down earlier than in time for the first Tuesday in November is still up in the air.

McEvoy will ride Classique Legend in The Everest, ruling him out of Caulfield Cup Day, but he is a chance to venture down to ride in the Cox Plate.

He told Racing.com he did have irons in the fire regarding a Cox Plate ride, but nothing was certain yet.

"I'm just going to wait and see how things pan out this weekend," McEvoy said.

"I am here for The Everest but could be down for the Cox Plate. I will just see how it unfolds.

"Probabeel is one that could head there and even a horse like Mugatoo could, depending on how he goes on the weekend. There's options there for a couple of them."

The three-time Melbourne Cup winner said he was excited to partner Tiger Moth in this year's race.

The Northern Hemisphere-bred three-year-old is highly regarded by international form analysts and currently sits as the $11 third favourite for the race with Sportsbet.

McEvoy said Tiger Moth fits the profile of a Melbourne Cup horse.

"It's exciting to be teaming up with Coolmore and Aidan O'Brien, obviously a lightly raced horse with a progressive look about him," McEvoy said.

"I was quite taken with his run in the Irish Derby where he was arguably unlucky not to beat the stablemate and then last time he was quite dominant in a good test over a mile-and-a-half at Leopardstown.

"It all spells a horse on an upward curve. I was quite taken by Ryan Moore's comments after the race, he's a horse that has to tick the two-mile box, but he's got the penalty, he gets into the race, so I'm looking forward to getting on him."
