The Moonee Valley Racing Club is saddened to hear of the passing of former Committeeman Tony Beddison AC. Tony held a lifelong passion for racing and the MVRC was fortunate to have Tony serve our great Club as a Committee member.
Tony joined the MVRC as an Executive Member in 1979 and as a Committeeman in 1998. Tony was a valued member of the Committee and served as Chairman of both the Risk Management and Art Sub-Committees. Tony was always very active in promoting and servicing the membership of our Club before retiring from the Committee in November 2009 to Chair the Royal Children’s Hospital redevelopment project.
Following his retirement from the MVRC Committee, Tony remained active around the Club and continued to assist where possible.
MVRC Chairman Don Casboult paid tribute to Tony.
“Tony was a revered figure at the MVRC and made an incredible contribution throughout his life in his business, community, charitable and philanthropic activities. Tony was a tireless contributor and he leaves an indelible mark on the fabric of our great city of Melbourne”.

Tony Beddison AC was the Chairman of The Beddison Group which includes HOBAN Recruitment, Clicks IT Recruitment, INDEX Consultants and HOBAN Outsourced Solutions.
In addition to his business activities, Tony was the Chairman of The Prince’s Charities Australia since 2013. From 2004 to 2013 he was the Chairman of the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, a Director of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and a Director of the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. He was also a Director of the Australian War Memorial Anzac Foundation.
Tony was the Chairman of the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships, the Chairman of the Australia Day Committee and was the Chairman of ‘Australia Remembers’ (Vic), the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of World War II. He was a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial for five years until 2000 and was a member of the Committee for The Centenary of Federation (Vic) from 1998 to 2000.
He was a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Fellow of The Australian Institute of Management and an Associate Fellow of The Australian Human Resources Institute.
In 2002 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to business and the community, and in 2003 he was awarded the Centenary Medal. In 2016, Tony was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).
