Scarred sprinter succeeds again

Andrew Noblet's resilient mare Can'tforgetyou continued her remarkable form after cheating death, winning her second-consecutive race over 1000 metres at The Valley on Saturday.

The five-year-old daughter of Von Costa De Hero was spelling after her debut third placing in a Geelong maiden two months earlier when she sustained significant injuries in a paddock accident on November 15, 2018.

"She took on a gate and came off second best by a long way," Noblet explained.

"If you look at her front legs there's scars all over them, she ripped herself apart a bit.

"The vet rang me and said, 'If she lives, she'll make a nice broodmare'. The next few days afterwards was important due to infection and all of that but she got through it.

"Then she had to come back to the track and do it all again, which she has done - she's bloody tough."

Can'tforgetyou has raced five times since the accident for three wins and two placings, with each of her victories coming over 1000m.

Noblet's mare was scratched from a 1200-metre Benchmark 78 handicap for mares on Ballarat Cup Day in preference for The Valley over the specialist sprint distance.

Daniel Stackhouse bided his time at the rear of the seven-horse field aboard Can'tforgetyou ($5) before allowing his mount to overrun Bella Vella ($4.60) by a short half head, with Causeway Girl ($4.80) a further half head away in third.

"She's just building up a great record and has a strong will to win," Noblet said.

"We might send her to the water walker for a week and give her a freshen up and bring her back for options over Christmas."

Can'tforgetyou has supplied Noblet with both of his Melbourne wins this season ahead of his stable relocation from Caulfield to Ballarat at the end of February.
