Hoof filler for Lys Gracieux, Quickie fit

Lys Gracieux will wear hoof filler when she contests Saturday's $5 million Cox Plate at The Valley.

But her backers should not be too alarmed, with the addition not something that has occurred in the days leading up to the feature race.

Racing Victoria stewards on Friday afternoon issued a notification that the Yoshito Yahagi-trained mare had hoof filler added to her near fore hoof on arrival in Australia last month.

Lys Gracieux is BetEasy's $3.50 favourite for the 2040-metre event, in which she will be ridden by Damian Lane.

Meanwhile Mr Quickie is fit to take his place at meeting after passing a veterinary examination on Friday.

The Phillip Stokes-trained Group 1 winner was found to be lame in the left front leg on Thursday and had to undergo a similar examination the following day, after which he was passed fit to start.

The Queensland Derby winner is second emergency for the Cox Plate but will contest the $500,000 G2 Moonee Valley Cup if he does not gain a start in the main race.

Mr Quickie, a $31 chance in Cox Plate betting, is BetEasy's $3.40 favourite for the Moonee Valley Cup.
