Plans for Cox Plate favourite Mystic Journey to remain in Victoria following Saturday's Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) have been shelved.
Trainer Adam Trinder confirmed the star mare will be heading home on Sunday morning regardless of the result at Flemington, continuing to be trained in Tasmania in the lead-up to the Cox Plate (2040m).
"We'd seriously been considering leaving her in Victoria after the Makybe, but she was just a bit too buzzy and electric when coming over for the P.B. Lawrence (1400m), had a bit too much nervous energy," he said.
"After that I definitely think it's best for her to stay in Tasmania and just keep coming over less than 48 hours before her runs.
"We're staying with the formula we know works at least until the Cox Plate, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'."
Going for her eighth-straight win, Mystic Journey is the $2.25 favourite with BetEasy for Saturday's race.
Trinder said she had taken improvement from her first-up victory in the G2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and that he wasn't too concerned with having drawn barrier 10.
"There's probably muddling speed in it, I would expect Gailo Chop would roll forward there and there's probably just muddling tempo in behind them," he said.
"Over the 1600m at Flemington she'll just get the opportunity to travel, I would expect that will be in the second half of the field, travel, build and finish."
While the four-year-old has a nomination for the $7.5m Golden Eagle, Trinder said his plan remained to run her in the Cox Plate.
"Our hope and our wish is to head to the Cox Plate," Trinder said.
"Of course she does have a nomination for The Golden Eagle and we'll get a read on it this week, how strong she is in the finish.
"But our plan remains to run in the Makybe Diva Stakes, then the Turnbull and into the Cox Plate."
Mystic Journey will travel over on the Spirit of Tasmania on Thursday night and will once again be stabled at Tony McEvoy's Flemington yard ahead of Saturday's Group 1.
