Taraayef to campaign at Valley in spring

Taraayef's first visit to The Valley resulted in victory and co-trainer Ben Hayes suggested the three-year-old filly will frequent the course for her spring campaign.

The daughter of Lonhro settled just worse than midfield in the eight-horse field under Luke Nolen and looped the field, striking the lead upon straightening before fending off the spirited Rumble Doll.

Taraayef ($3.60 favourite) defeated Rumble Doll ($7) by a neck, with Absolute Flirt ($5.50) a further 1.75 lengths away in third.

"She got shuffled back further than I was expecting but she really joined in like a nice filly and hit the line strong," Hayes said.

"I think for the initial stage (of her career) we'll keep her to sprinting distances, she was pretty dominant here and she goes pretty well at The Valley."

Hayes suggested Taraayef will have her next start at The Valley on August 24 in a three-year-old fillies race over 1200 metres before the $140,000 Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on September 7.

The two disappointments in the race were Mystical Pursuit ($9) and Jedastar ($6) who were the last two horses to cross the line after being noticeable betting ring drifters.

Mystical Pursuit can be forgiven as she took an awkward step at halfway, as the 1000-metre chute met the course proper, and effectively lost any winning chance.
