O'Brien's promising fillies resume

Danny O'Brien will unleash one, if not two, of his talented new season three-year-old fillies on Saturday.

The Flemington trainer enjoyed a good season with his juveniles, recording 10 winners from 37 starters, and six of those victories came from three fillies, with Absolute Flirt, Lady Lupino and Moldova registering two wins each.

Buoyed by the prospect of an untouched racing surface at The Valley, which will host its first meeting since March, O'Brien believes the 1000-metre fillies race presents the perfect opportunity to have Queen Adelaide Stakes winner Absolute Flirt and potentially Lady Lupino commence their spring campaigns.

"Absolute Flirt will definitely run, she trialled nicely last Friday in a very strong heat," O'Brien said at Flemington trackwork on Tuesday morning.

"She's really well suited to the 1000m (of Saturday's race).

"She's just a very solid, honest filly that has run very well every time we've run her.

"She loves being in work and we'll run her on Saturday, and then two weeks (later) into the Quezette Stakes (1100m on August 17).

"She'll be kept to sprinting trips, she's such a sharp filly so I suspect she'll be kept to those distances."

While Absolute Flirt will be firing second-up in Stakes grade, Lady Lupino will be built up and stretched out in distance.

The daughter of Sebring and half to Star Witness recorded an impressive victory at Sandown back in April before heading up to Sydney and running a gallant third in the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) behind Castelvecchio at Randwick.

"Lady Lupino had a sharp gallop here (at Flemington) this morning, Damien Oliver came in and gave her a good strong gallop," O'Brien explained.

"We'll put her name down for the trials here on Friday and I'd suspect we'll end up trialling her first, but it is going to be tempting with The Valley presenting a lovely surface for her there on Saturday as well.

"She came back from Sydney in good shape, up there she showed enough (in the Champagne Stakes) to be set for the spring.

"She's a Sebring filly that has matured and I think she'll be better again now as a spring three-year-old.

"We've been very pleased with her work so far this spring.

"I think her best distance will be 1400m to a mile, logically the Guineas Prelude and the Thousand Guineas (are the races she'll be targeted to)."

O'Brien says Moldova will jumpout at Flemington on Friday morning before heading to the races.
