Expected rain in Melbourne later this week has delayed the return to racing of Cox Plate favourite Mystic Journey, with the mare not among the final acceptances for Saturday's Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield.
Trainer Adam Trinder has confirmed he and the mare's connections were concerned the Caulfield track could be too wet by Saturday after 12 millimetres was recorded at the track on Tuesday night, with more rain predicted on Friday.
Trinder said Mystic Journey is now likely to resume in three weeks in the G2 Lawrence Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield and then progress to the G1 Memsie Stakes over the same course two weeks later.
He said the mare was likely to trial at Devonport in the first week of August to have her ready for the 1400-metre trip first-up in the Lawrence.
There were nine final acceptances for the 1200-metre Bletchingly - headed by Group 1 winner Scales Of Justice.
