Sunlight set for Manikato tilt

Tony McEvoy will throw Sunlight in the deep end against the older horses in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) after she easily accounted for her own age and sex in Saturday's Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

The flying three-year-old took her career record to seven wins from 10 starts with a trademark front-running performance under Luke Currie, holding out Mornington filly Humma Humma and Sydney raider Meryl in the run to the line.

McEvoy said the Manikato, in which the daughter of Zoustar would carry 51kg around The Valley under the weight-for-age conditions of the race, was an attractive option before a potential tilt at the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

"I'm thinking the Manikato (Stakes) with her, 51 kilograms around Moonee Valley, she'll take some catching and a lot of the horses that are going to be in that race will be running around on a heavy track up in Sydney today," McEvoy said.

"I won the race last year (with Hey Doc) and I'd like to win it again."
