Dunn: Leonidas won't want to Miss start

Miss Leonidas is eyeing off black type racing in the spring but jockey Dwayne Dunn cites a potential key negative to the filly's chance at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The daughter of I Am Invincible turned heads at Ballarat two runs back when she missed the start hopelessly before showing tremendous acceleration when posting a 3.2-length victory.

"You just don't see many horses do that and the times stacked up too," Dunn said.

She ran last Saturday - her first crack up the famous Flemington straight - and Dunn suggested Miss Leonidas was beaten by immaturity.

"Declan Bates' horse (RoddandTodd) was up alongside her but when she gave it the slip she kind of got a bit lost," he said.

"Had something stuck with her, I think she goes a bit quicker and possibly wins the race, it's just a maturity thing.

"I don't think being drawn towards the inside did her any harm, she sprinted clear, it was just when she got out in front she didn't put them away."

Dunn holds 'no thoughts really' on how the seven-day back-up will affect Shaun Dwyer's filly but did suggest Moonee Valley was a track where Miss Leonidas will need to bring her best manners.

"She won't want to miss the start there," he said.

"Not over the 1000m. If you do, you get shuffled right back and then you're in a very awkward position where often your only hope is to come around them.

"At Ballarat she was able to get up on the inside of the field as they fanned out looking for better ground but I doubt that will happen at Moonee Valley.

"She's the most exciting horse I'm riding at the meeting and if she does everything right she'll take some stopping but she's done a couple of things wrong at her past two starts and that is a concern."

Sportsbet are top odds at $3.90 about Miss Leonidas in the seventh event at Moonee Valley this weekend.
