Queen Elizabeth is set to visit The Valley in October for a meeting with Winx.

Queen plans to visit Cox Plate

When news came through Wednesday afternoon that Winx's connections had decided to stay in Australia and not embark on an overseas campaign, Queen Elizabeth was known to be very distressed and clearly upset that she won't get to see the world's best race horse in her own back yard.

This prompted calls 24 hours later from Her Majesty, hoping she would get to see the great mare at least once.

After discussions with the Australian Government, the British embassy in Canberra and the Moonee Valley Racing Club, it is now known that Queen Elizabeth will travel to Australia for the 2018 Ladbrokes Cox Plate in anticipation that the mighty mare Winx may be there for a record attempt at a fourth W.S. Cox Plate.

Queen Elizabeth kindly declined the offer to be a guest in the Committee Room on the day, much preferring to spend the day in general admission to be a part of the great atmosphere The Valley is known for and to not miss out on dancing to Daryl Braithwaite's 'The Horses'.

"Who would have ever thought we could possibly have two queens in our back yard on the same day," said MVRC CEO Michael Browell.

"This is a very exciting time for the club and hopefully I can find Her Majesty some time throughout the day for a 'selfie'," Browell explained.

It is not known yet if Queen Elizabeth will be in attendance on Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes night.
