Sanctimonious wins at The Valley (Image: Racing Photos)
Tony McEvoy chalked up an eighth two-year-old winner for the Australian racing season on Friday night, as the VRC Sires' Produce-bound Sanctimonious won under Craig Williams' riding.
The same trainer/jockey combo will be hoping their luck with two-year-olds runs into Saturday with Kinky Boom in the 2YO Inglis Premier, and on Friday night, the Foxwedge colt did the job for punters' albeit in a different fashion.

Having opened $2.70 with CrownBet and starting $1.50, Sanctimonious was certainly carrying the weight of a few - but Williams cleverly offset the slow pace by taking him around the field before cornering and eventually getting the win by 1.25 lengths from the Mick Kent-trained debutant Metronome.
McEvoy hailed Williams for his assertive ride.

Viennese Star was Mark Zahra's only ride of the night at The Valley, and the filly made it a worthwhile trip as she held out the Darren Weir-trained Krone in a fighting finish between the two debutants.
The difference could have been that the Aaron Purcell-trained galloper enjoyed a Monday gallop on the track with two mates, and that experience probably helped her get the victory in the Indoor Sports Victoria Plate (1000m) for fillies.

James Cummings-trained Lonhro colt Marmaris took out the two-year-old race at Canterbury on Friday night, Tye Angland riding him to a two-length win.
The 1250m race for the juveniles was a comfortable result for the Godolphin stable, a day after unveiling a potential contender for the two-year-old features, Plague Stone, at the Warwick Farm trials.
