Truly overdue win for O'Sullivan

It was a win for Ballarat, but not the one punters wanted, in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Exotics Handicap (1500m) at Moonee Valley, as the Dan O'Sullivan-trained Truly Discreet ($13) led all the way for star hoop Craig Williams.

It was O'Sullivan's first winner in town since Australia Day 2016, when Tuscan Fire dead-heated with Peter Moody-trained Radical in the Summer Championship Final at Caulfield.

For his most recent "outright" metro winner in Melbourne, you have to go back to New Year's Day 2014 at Flemington when Gottino saluted at $17, so O'Sullivan was pretty rapt cheering her home from the Valley stands.

He got one up on the Darren Weir-trained Pleasuring (3rd, $3.50) and the Jason Warren-trained Kardashing (2nd, $4.20).

"Well-bred filly from a terrific family, the mare's had 16 foals for 16 winners," O'Sullivan beamed, of the daughter of She's Discreet.

"This race was always on the radar. She won well at Terang and I ran her last Friday [at Moonee Valley] because she won so well at Terang, but this race was always on the radar for the good money.

"She's VOBIS qualified - but I'm rapt, I haven't won a race in town for a while so it's good to get one home.

"Brilliant front-running ride from Craig. Once he got that start right, he had control, he dropped it back good mid-race and was too strong on the line."

Truly Discreet picked up $50,000 in VOBIS Gold and Super VOBIS bonuses to reel in $116,000 in total for connections.
