Warren chases Valley double

Emerging three-year-old Bel Sonic will tune up for next month's $1million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) when he tackles Saturday's lucrative VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m) at The Valley.

Trainer Jason Warren said the gelding's fitness had improved significantly since his impressive first-up victory at Racing.com Park and is confident an awkward draw - Ben Melham will jump from barrier 11 of 12 - won't hinder his chances of victory in the $150,000 contest.

"He went into Pakenham, a little bit big in condition and he's tightened right up since," Warren said.

"We gave him a strong gallop at Mornington on the course proper (on Wednesday) and he still had a little blow afterwards so there's some improvement to come for his third-up run (Magic Millions) which is out target race for the preparation.

"He's a get back, run on horse so if the track is racing to suit his style he'll be finishing fast and as he's shown, he's quite classy."

The son of Bel Esprit is rated a $9.50 chance in CrownBet's fixed odds market for the race, which is headed by Lindsay Park's Stakes-placed galloper Muraahib ($2.25) ahead of Mick Price's unbeaten filly Teleplay ($8.50).

Another of Warren's progressive three-year-olds chasing a VOBIS payday on Saturday is Kardashing who steps to 1500m for the first time in her short career.

The daughter of Redoute's Choice already boasts a Stakes placing in last season's Oaklands Stakes (1400m) and the Mornington horseman is confident the filly can peak in Saturday's race, which carries $50,000 in bonuses in addition to the $120,000 prizemoney pool.

"She's been close at her first two runs this campaign," he said.

"This is the race we had targeted since the start of the preparation and being a VOBIS and VOBIS Gold 1500m three-year-old fillies race with a Benchmark 70, there are plenty of restrictions."

Kardashing is on the second line of betting for the race at $4.40 behind Darren Weir's three-start maiden Pleasuring at $3.60.
