Waller waits on Winx decision

Chris Waller will wait until later this week to decide whether Winx races for a sixth time this campaign in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

Waller reported that the daughter of Street Cry had recovered remarkably well from Saturday's record-equalling third Cox Plate victory but said any future plans, including an international odyssey in 2018, would not be locked in until he consults the owners and jockey Hugh Bowman.

After several quiet days at Flemington and a couple of visits to Altona Beach, Winx stepped out at trackwork on Tuesday morning for some light work.

"I anticipated that I'd have it done by now but there's been no discussion between myself, Hugh Bowman and the owners," Waller said.

"All I can tell you is that she's pulled up very well and that was always first and foremost to make sure that, as an animal, she's coping well with her racing.

"She went into the race at 526kg and she's come out of the race exactly the same weight, which is quite remarkable.

"They put quite a bit of effort into their races so for them to come out of a race the same weight, it firstly tells you that they were well and fit going into the race but most importantly that they've recovered so quickly.

"The feed bin has been left clean, she's eating up well every night, she's had a couple of quiet days at the beach and this morning she went out for a light jog on the track."

The $2 million Emirates Stakes on November 11 would be Winx's sixth start this preparation, eclipsing her three-start spring campaign in 2015 and her four-start preparation for her first Cox Plate triumph.
