Champion mare Winx has completed a third-successive Cox Plate win at Moonee Valley but her winning margin to Humidor was a lot closer than most expected.
Jockey Hugh Bowman kept the Chris Waller-trained champion out of trouble and she did the rest but only after having to survive a huge late challenge from Humidor to break the track-record she set in winning the 2015 Cox Plate.
The victory also saw Winx match Kingston Town's record of winning three Cox Plates in a row.
Cranbourne Cup winner Folkswood was third ahead of Tony McEvoy's three-year-old Royal Symphony.
