On 20 January 2017, tragedy struck in the heart of Melbourne. Innocent lives were lost, and families were devastated, duo to a senseless act. Victorians showed remarkable courage, and came to the aid of family, friend and stranger. And as we heal, Victorians can continue to help those who have been most affected.
The Victorian Government has established a fund to help those families whose loved ones died in this tragedy, and is donating an initial $100,000 to this community fund.
As parents, partners, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and Melbournians, everyone at the Moonee Valley Racing Club was deeply affected by the tragedy that struck in the heart of our great city.
To assist the Victorian Government’s fund, every dollar made from the Australia Stakes ticket sales on Friday night will be donated to this worthy cause. We will also ask for a gold coin donation for those who enjoy a sausage from our free Aussie BBQ and we will have Bourke Street Fund tip jars at every bar for people to donate.
The MVRC passes on their condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.
