Moonee Valley firming for Oscietra debut

Moonee Valley is firming as favourite to be the track where Black Caviar's first foal Oscietra will make her highly anticipated debut.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel is being prepared for her second jump-out at Flemington on Friday morning and her schedule will be finalised following the 800m gallop.

Trainer David Hayes said running down the straight at Flemington on New Year's Day remains an option but the prospect of racing around a turn at Moonee Valley on December 31 is just ahead.

"We are tossing up between Moonee Valley (New Year's Eve) and (Flemington) New Year's Day if she trials well," he said.

"If she doesn't we will back off her and race her a bit later. At this stage, she is favourite to be running in the late Christmas period."

Hayes said Oscietra has continued to please the stable following her first public appearance, where she jumped from the barriers extremely fast before coasting to a comfortable win.

"I think she has come on nicely, her feed intake has been great, we haven't really let her go but she is wanting to gallop so we will let her run a bit faster on Friday so it will be interesting," he said.

"We have been working her in behind horses but if she jumps that length and a half in front it is just madness to take the speed out of her.

"You just stay there, there is no better place to be in a two-year-old race than in front when you are cruising, we will see how she jumps, if she doesn't she will sit behind them but if she does we won't be taking that pace away."
