Bus

A number of bus services operate in the vicinity, with regular stops on Wilson St. and Dean St. The Racecourse is also located 300m from the Moonee Ponds bus interchange. Courtesy busses will run between Gate 2 and Moonee Ponds Station. Refer to the schedule above.

Overnight Carpark

Vehicles left in the The Valley centre car park can be collected between 8am and 12pm the day after the race meeting or after 7am on working days. Patrons wanting to collect vehicles outside of these hours may do so by calling 1300 368 284, a call out fee will apply to afterhours collection.

General Admission Parking

On-site public car parking is available on the centre of the racecourse, with access via Gate 7 at Wilson Street or Gate 6 at Dean Street. We urge all patrons to consider public transport as a preferred option. Please be aware that street closures and restricted access will be in effect and vehicular traffic may be affected.

Taxi & Hire Car

Taxi and hire cars can access via Coats street and drop off on Feehan Avenue. A Taxi Rank will also operate from the centre car park. For Private Bus drop off/pick up location, please call Customer Service on 1300 843 825.

Train

The Moonee Ponds railway station (on the Craigieburn Line) is located approximately 1km west of the The Valley Racecourse. Craigieburn line from Flinders Street Station stops at Moonee Ponds Station, 10 minute walk down Puckle Street to The Valley. Additional train services will be operating.

Tram

The Moonee Ponds Junction is 450m to the west of the racecourse. This tram stop services the Route 59 and 82. Tram No. 59 from Elizabeth Street arrives directly at Moonee Ponds Junction. The Valley is about a 200 metre walk. Route 58 stops on the corner of Melville Rd and Victoria St - 600m from Gate 2. For all tram and train services please visit: www.ptv.vic.gov.au/timetables

Centenary of the W.S. Cox Plate - Highlights

The Racecourse Works master planning and delivery activity is now well underway. The Development Agreement, which was entered into in 2017 with Australia’s leading superannuation fund Hostplus and renowned developer Hamton, is actively in its construction phase for Stage 1. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity over the next 15 years will deliver a new world-class racing facility that is supported by an urban designed residential, retail, commercial and lifestyle precinct. It is exciting to watch the progress being made to deliver the vision to transform the 98-acre Moonee Valley Racecourse site.

The Masterplan that will guide the transformation of the Moonee Valley Racecourse precinct was endorsed by Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC) at the 26 October 2021 Council meeting. The decision is a key milestone and follows a thorough planning process and extensive period of community consultation undertaken by MVCC and the MVRC.

The redevelopment of racecourse assets will create a sustainable and contemporary precinct, including exciting new social and recreational facilities for the community, MVRC Members, and visitors to enjoy. With this approval now finalised, work has commenced on the detailed planning of the four key elements of the new Moonee Valley Racecourse precinct – the Racecourse, Infield, Grandstand and Clubhouse.

The redeveloped precinct will feature exemplary sustainability initiatives in accordance with the Club’s corporate strategy objectives. The Project team is currently working to register the Racecourse Works project under the EnviroDevelopment sustainable development tool. EnviroDevelopment independently reviews development projects and awards certification to those that achieve outstanding performance across four or more of the provided elements – Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water and Community. Design activities have already commenced on water treatment and harvesting facilities, wetlands, and solar energy infrastructure.

The project team is currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for services to undertake the construction of a new racing surface and associated works as part of the redevelopment of the racecourse. In accordance with the Masterplan approval the preparation of the planning permit application for the racetrack and associated infrastructure has commenced. The racetrack planning application is programmed for lodgement with MVCC in early 2022.

The redeveloped precinct will feature exemplar sustainability initiatives in accordance with the Club’s corporate strategy objectives. The Project team is currently registering the Racecourse Works project under the EnviroDevelopment sustainable development tool. EnviroDevelopment independently reviews development projects and awards certification to those that achieve outstanding performance across four or more of the provided elements – Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water and Community. Design activities have already commenced on water treatment and harvesting facilities, wetlands, and solar energy infrastructure.

Moonee Valley Park is a brand-new premium neighbourhood set within hectares of generous parkland in Moonee Ponds. The residential neighbourhood will be enveloped by a mix of retailers, cafes and spaces for community events and fitness and will be unlike anything else in Melbourne!

TOTE Bar & Dining is the primary visual element within the new landscaped setting and is already a go-to destination for locals and racegoers.
